The Southern Connecticut Conference, with the support of presenting sponsor j.roo’s of North Haven, is naming a female and male athlete of the month during the academic year. It is the fourth year that j.roo’s has sponsored the Athlete of Month award. Each recipient receives a certificate and $25 gift card to j.roo’s. j.roo’s is located at 243 State Street in North Haven.
SCC Athletes of the Month for May 2026
Georgiana Sheehan, Cheshire, lacrosse
A senior goalie, Georgiana Sheehan was outstanding all month as the Rams went 9-1 in 10 games, culminating with a 6-5 victory over Daniel Hand in the SCC championship game on May 28. In those 10 games, Georgiana allowed just 52 goals, 5.2 per game. She posted 66 saves during those 10 games. She was named to the All-SCC First Team and led the Rams to their first league title since 2023.
Vinny Lombardo, Fairfield Prep, baseball
A senior centerfielder who was named SCC Player of the Year, Vinny Lombardo hit .579 (22-for-38) in 12 games during the month of the May as the Jesuits were undefeated and captured the SCC playoff title with a 4-1 win over top-ranked Lyman Hall on May 27. Lombardo, who became Prep’s career home run and stolen base leader during the month, drove in 13 runs and swiped 10 bases. In three SCC playoff games, he went 7-for-10 (.700) with five stolen bases as the Jesuits won their first league title since 2022.
