Mercy’s Sarah Roberts, Lyman Hall’s Aaron Rich named SCC Athletes of the Month for February 2026, presented by j.roo’s of North Haven

The Southern Connecticut Conference, with the support of presenting sponsor j.roo’s of North Haven, is naming a female and male athlete of the month during the academic year.  It is the fourth year that j.roo’s has sponsored the Athlete of Month award. Each recipient receives a certificate and $25 gift card to j.roo’s.   j.roo’s is located at 243 State Street in North Haven.

SCC Athletes of the Month for February 2026

Sarah Roberts, Mercy, indoor track/ice hockey

A rare two-sport in-season athlete, Sarah Roberts had a busy month of February.  On February 7, she won the 1600 meters (5:15.7) and placed second in the 600 meters (1:35.64) at the SCC indoor track championships which Mercy won.  A week later, she led the Tigers to the Class M state title winning the 1,000 meters (2:59.98).  At the State Open on  Feb. 21, she placed first in the 1000 meters (2:53.32) and concluded the month placing second in the 1000 meters (2:55.72) at the New England championships.   In addition, she played six games for the Mercy co-op ice hockey team and scored five goals and added six assists, which qualified for the CHSGHA state tournament.

Aaron Rich, Lyman Hall, indoor track

Aaron led the Trojans to runner-up finishes at the SCC (Feb. 7), Class M (Feb. 12) and State Open (Feb. 21) indoor track championships during the month.  He earned the SCC’s meet Most Outstanding Performer, winning the long jump (setting a meet record, 24-04.50) and 300 meters.   At the Class M meet on Feb. 13, he won the long jump with a state record jump of 24-6.25) and the 300 meters, while finishing second in the high jump.  At the State Open, he won the long jump, placed second in the 300 meters and was third in the high jump.
