Notre Dame senior basketball star Abdou Toure was named the “Allen Iverson” National Player of the Year.
The Allen Iverson National High School Player of the Year award is given annually by the Iverson Classic to honor one of the top high school basketball players in the United States. It is named after the legendary Allen Iverson, who himself won the Associated Press High School Player of the Year award in both football and basketball at Bethel High School in Hampton, Virginia. Toure competed in the Iverson Classic on Saturday, May 2 at Hampton (Va.) Coliseum with the nation’s elite high school prospects.
Toure is the first SCC student-athlete to earn such a recognition. This past season, Toure averaged 24.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists for the Green Knights, leading them to their fifth-straight SCC tournament title. He shot better than 70 percent from the floor and finished his career with a school record 1,981 points. He also owns the single-game school scoring record with 49 points against SCC rival Wilbur Cross on Feb. 14, 2024. Toure is also a three-time recipient of the SCC’s Tournament Most Outstanding Player award.
Toure is a three-time SCC player of the year as well as a three-time GametimeCT Player of the Year. A two-time Gatorade Connecticut Player of the Year, he was ranked among the nation’s top players.
Toure will play at the University of Arkansas next season.
