The Southern Connecticut Conference, with the support of presenting sponsor j.roo’s of North Haven, is naming a female and male athlete of the month during the academic year. It is the fourth year that j.roo’s has sponsored the Athlete of Month award. Each recipient receives a certificate and $25 gift card to j.roo’s. j.roo’s is located at 243 State Street in North Haven.

SCC Athletes of the Month for December 2025

Emelia Brandi, North Haven (Blades co-op), girls ice hockey

A tri-captain, Emelia totaled 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists) in five games for The Blades co-op, consisting of girls from Amity Regional, Cheshire and North Haven. Emelia led the team to wins against SWC, Ridgefield, Woodstock Academy and Guilford during the month.

Josh Durant, Sheehan, football

A First Team All-SCC honoree, Josh led the Titans to the Class S state championship by rushing for 582 yards and 10 touchdowns in three playoff games during the month of December. He rushed for 264 yards and five touchdowns in the Titans’ 41-20 semifinal win over top-ranked Woodland, and culminated his season with a 215-yard, three-touchdown effort in the 21-7 title game win over Northwest Catholic.
