SCC’s May 2024 Athletes of Month, presented by j.roo’s of North Haven
The Southern Connecticut Conference, with the support of presenting sponsor j.roo’s of North Haven, is naming a female and male athlete of the month during the academic year. Each recipient receives a certificate and $25 gift card to j.roo’s.
Jack Ouellette, outdoor track & field, Xavier
A junior, Jack led the Falcons to the SCC and Class L titles during the month of May. On May 21, Jack captured first place in the 1600 (4:21) and 3200 (9:38) meters as the Falcons captured the SCC title for the second straight year. Nine days later in the Class L state championship meet, Jack won the 3200 meters (9:21.25) and finished fourth in the 1600 (4:14) as the Falcons won the state title by 0.5 points against Windsor. Jack was a key member of the Falcons’ SCC title-winning cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field teams in 2023-24.
Haley Mario, lacrosse, Amity Regional
The SCC Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year, Haley was outstanding during the month of May as the Spartans captured their first-ever SCC title. In 10 games, Haley led the Spartans to an impressive 8-2 mark, scoring 40 goals and adding nine assists. Haley scored four goals in Amity’s 15-9 win over Daniel Hand in the SCC championship game on May 23, and was named as the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. It was Amity’s second league title.
