SCC Adds Girls Wrestling Playoff Competition in 2026-27; Becomes the league’s 30th sport

Southern Connecticut Conference Board of Governors Approve Creation of Girls Wrestling Postseason Championship

The Southern Connecticut Conference’s Board of Governors voted unanimously to establish a Girls Wrestling Postseason Championship, marking a historic expansion of athletic opportunities across the league.

With this addition, girls wrestling becomes the 30th sanctioned sport in the SCC.

The creation of the postseason championship reflects the SCC’s commitment to supporting the rapid growth of girls wrestling statewide and nationally. Participation has increased significantly in recent years, with more SCC schools sponsoring girls wrestlers and integrating them into established programs.

“This is an exciting and meaningful step for our league,” said Al Carbone, Commissioner of the Southern Connecticut Conference. “Girls wrestling continues to grow at an impressive pace, and our student‑athletes deserve a postseason championship competition. Thank you to Amity Regional athletic director and SCC wrestling chairperson Ernie Goodwin for leading this effort.”

The inaugural SCC Girls Wrestling Championship will debut during the 2026–27 winter season, providing a dedicated postseason platform for athletes to compete for individual and team honors.

Event details, including host site and format, will be announced in the coming months.
