SCC’s November 2024 Athletes of Month, presented by j.roo’s of North Haven
The Southern Connecticut Conference, with the support of presenting sponsor j.roo’s of North Haven, is naming a female and male athlete of the month during the academic year. It is the third year that j.roo’s has sponsored the Athlete of Month award. Each recipient receives a certificate and $25 gift card to j.roo’s.
Cassie Ward, field hockey, Guilford
After leading the Grizzlies to the SCC title in late October, Cassie continued her great play in the month of November leading the team to the Class M state title. In four state games, Cassie totaled four goals and five assists, including the game-winning goal in the second overtime in the state title game against Branford on Nov. 16.
Paul Calandrelli, football, Daniel Hand
Paul led the Tigers to a perfect 4-0 record during the month of November, which earned the team the 2024 SCC regular-season title. A quarterback, Paul directed the Tigers’ offense to 37.3 points a game totaling 506 passing yards and eight touchdowns, while adding 178 more and three scores on the ground.
