SCC’s February 2025 Athletes of Month, presented by j.roo’s of North Haven

The Southern Connecticut Conference, with the support of presenting sponsor j.roo’s of North Haven, is naming a female and male athlete of the month during the academic year.  It is the third year that j.roo’s has sponsored the Athlete of Month award. Each recipient receives a certificate and $25 gift card to j.roo’s.   j.roo’s is located at 243 State Street in North Haven.

Brooke Anderson, Daniel Hand, gymnastics

Senior Brooke Anderson led the Tigers to the SCC and Class S gymnastics titles during the month of February.

At the SCC championship on Feb. 6, she won the All-Around title (36.6) and won the top performer in the floor, bars and vault.   It was the Tigers’ fourth consecutive league title and league-best 25th overall.

At the Class S state championship meet on Feb. 22, she recorded the highest balance beam score (9.45), while scoring a 9.325 in vault (second), a 9.000 in floor (third) and a 8.850 in uneven bars (tied for second).  It was the Tigers’ fourth straight Class S state title.

Owen Rich, Lyman Hall, indoor track

Senior Owen Rich led the Lyman Hall boys indoor track team to the SCC, Class M and State Open titles during the month of February.

On Feb. 8, he won the 300 meters (35.37), the 55 meter hurdles (7.61) and was a member of the Trojans’ victorious 4 x 400 meter relay.   Owen was named as the championship meet’s Most Outstanding Performer.

At the Class M state meet on Feb. 13, he won the 300 meters (35.64), 55 meter hurdles (7.49) and was a member of the Trojans’ victorious 4 x 400 meter relay.

On Feb. 22, he finished second in the 300 meters (35.22) and 55 meter hurdles (7.37). 

Owen is also an outstanding baseball player and reigning SCC player of the year.
