Indoor Track Reminders for Floyd Little Athletic Center

The SCC and its indoor track student athletes are privileged to use the Floyd Little Athletic Center for its meets.

The FLAC was recently refurbished, so our SCC member schools must be leaders in exhibiting proper courtesy of the guidelines (as well as being excellent in cleaning up after themselves) in keeping it as one of the best athletic facilities in the nation.

Many thanks to MySportsResults’ Marty Ogden for working with Bob Davis, Thom Jacobs from Paynes Corner Timing and Hillhouse indoor track coach Gary Moore to provide some important reminders.

MY SPORTS RESULTS post – January 8, 2026

While indoor track and field meets at the renovated Floyd Little Athletic Facility in New Haven are popular they are often large and time-consuming. To maximize efficiency while offering a high rate of participation, the staff at Hillhouse High School and Paynes Corner Timing offer key reminders for both athletes and coaches. Please review these points before your next meet to help ensure a positive experience for all participants and fans.

Track & Field Arena

Only pyramid spikes are allowed with a maximum length quarter 1/4 inch. No Christmas tree spikes are allowed on the surface. If you are found competing with illegal spikes, you will be disqualified from that event and the remainder of the meet.

Absolutely no tape may be placed on the track surface.
Remember, this is a brand new resurfaced track and we all want it looking great for years to come.

For long jump, they will be moving toward the use of vinyl tape only provided by the meet management.

After their use, hip numbers must never be placed on the track or walls. They should be discarded in the trash bins.

If you are not competing in long jump, please stay out of the long jump area.

No electronics and ESPECIALLY no earbuds/ headphones are allowed on the track or the field event competition areas.
This is a safety issue

Athletes must stay out of the finish line area unless actively competing.

At the end of a race, athletes should always walk forward toward the clerking area under the American flag.

Only starting blocks provided by the facility may be used.

Entry Fees

Attention coaches and athletic directors! Reconciling payment of team entry fees has become burdensome for meet management. With three to four meets a week, you can imagine how time consuming and costly it is if two or three teams don’t pay per meet. Make sure to follow the instructions available on each Meet Info page in Athletic.net.

No one wants this to happen, but for teams who don’t comply, entries to further meets will be blocked.

Vertical Jumps

While the CIAC has a 10-minute check out rule for field events, be particularly mindful about when you are checking out for the high jump and pole vault. Communicate with the official and ask if you can take jumps out of order and don’t leave for heat one if you are in heat 15 of your running event.

New This Year – Declaring for the 300m

Often athletes are entered in the 300m and don’t compete for various reasons. To make sure there aren’t empty lanes in heats and to reduce the number of sections, please follow these simple procedures that have been adopted for several upcoming conference championships as well as all CIAC Championships.

All athletes must be positively declared for the 300m or they will be scratched after entries have closed and will not be reentered. Coaches can do this by entering the hospitality room (across from the long jump takeoff boards) via the track to make declarations. If an athlete is going to declare themselves, they should form a line into the hospitality room from the large hallway outside the track area located close to the concession stand. Athletes should indicate their school first and their last name second when declaring. They can also check in teammate(s) if they are certain that they are also competing.

Coaches, communicate to your team who will be doing declarations before you arrive at the meet. It can be a captain, team leader or yourself, but don’t ASSUME it will be done. Also, there is no need for two people to declare the same person.

After an athlete has been declared their name will appear on Live Results. Coaches can confirm entries by navigating to the 300m banner on the live results page in Athletic.net.

Seeding will take place after the declaration process has closed. Like all other track events, clerking will take place by the American Flag approximately 15 minutes after the window has closed. During the event before the 300m, you will be called to an area closer to the 300m start in order to organize into heats.

Clean Up After Yourselves !!!! (SCC TEAMS – PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS….)

Please make sure you clean up after yourselves and throw garbage into trash bins located throughout the facility. After their use, hip numbers must never be placed on the track or walls. They should be discarded in the trash bins.
Also, if you are using chalk in the pole vault, bring a towel to place underneath your container so dust isn’t left behind.

Let’s all work together to help keep the newly refurbished Floyd Little Athletic Center beautiful for years to come.
