The Southern Connecticut Conference, with the support of presenting sponsor j.roo’s of North Haven, is naming a female and male athlete of the month during the academic year. It is the fourth year that j.roo’s has sponsored the Athlete of Month award. Each recipient receives a certificate and $25 gift card to j.roo’s. j.roo’s is located at 243 State Street in North Haven.
SCC Athletes of the Month for October 2025
Nina Nardecchia, Amity Regional, girls volleyball
Nina Nardecchia led the Spartans to a 9-1 record during the month of October, and the 2025 SCC playoff title. Amity won its second straight league title, defeating top-seed Sacred Heart Academy, 3-1, on October 29. The Spartans previously defeated Guilford and Lyman Hall to reach the finals.
Nina posted 45 kills during the month and had eight blocks. She had a 100 percent serving percentage to lead the Spartans. She is also an outstanding basketball player having earned First Team All-SCC honors last winter.
Robby Rosati, Fairfield Prep, golf
Fairfield Prep senior golfer Robby Rosati won a sudden-death playoff on the third hole at Mohegan Sun Golf Club to capture the 2025 CNESSPA New England Boys Championship on October 26. Rosati fired a 2-under-par 69 to earn a share of medalist laurels with Jack Quinn from Maine and Grey Gagnon from New Hampshire. Rosati won with a par on the third hole.
Five days earlier, Fairfield Prep captured its third consecutive CIAC Division I boys golf championship. Prep finished at 7-over-par 291, seven strokes better than Darien. Rosati finished among the top ten with a 73.
