Two SCC teams won state football titles on Saturday, December 9. North Haven won Class MM (defeating Wilton, 21-0), while Daniel Hand captured Class M (defeated Rockville, 57-20). One other SCC team – West Haven – fell just short of Staples, 21-20, in the Class LL final.
The SCC has now won 35 state titles in its 30-year existence. Daniel Hand has won nine, while North Haven has won two.
Overall, seven SCC football teams earned state playoff berths following the conclusion of the 2023 regular season, presented by the Casey-O’Brien New Haven County Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
The seven teams is the second-most in league history; in 2022 – the SCC had 10 teams qualify. Since 1994, SCC teams have won 33 state titles. Last season, North Haven (Class MM) and Notre Dame (Class M) won state championships.
