#SCC25 Turn Back the Clock: Jan. 22, 1993 – Mega Conference: Are you In? Or Are you Out?
In October 1992, discussions regarding a “Mega” high school league became serious, and nearly three months later, on Jan. 19, 1993, a meeting was held at ACES, facilitated by its Executive Director Peter Young with interested principals and athletic directors from area high schools. The concept of a “Mega League” was tangible, and the reality was timing if it were to begin in the 1994-95 academic year. This mega conference ultimately became the Southern Connecticut Conference.
But first, schools needed to make their commitment – were they in, or were they out?
On January 22, 1993, Young mailed (no email, yet folks) a letter to each school asking for their commitment to the “Mega League.” The deadline to respond was February 27, 1993.
The rest is history.
