Congratulations to the following six SCC teams which have won state titles this winter: Daniel Hand (Class L girls basketball, defeated Holy Cross, 50-45); Hillhouse (Class LL boys basketball, defeated East Hartford, 78-58), Guilford (Div. II boys ice hockey, defeated Watertown-Pomperaug, 5-3), Daniel Hand (Class M gymnastics), Hillhouse (Class M boys indoor track), and Lauralton Hall (Class L cheerleading)
The following seven teams finished as state runner-ups: Fairfield Prep (Class LL boys swimming), Notre Dame (Class M boys swimming), Hamden (Girls Ice Hockey), Shelton (State Open boys indoor track), Hillhouse (Class M girls indoor track), Xavier (Class LL wrestling) and Foran (Class M wrestling).

Before a sold-out crowd of 3,421 at Quinnipiac's TD Bank Sports Center, #2 Hillhouse defeated #1 Notre Dame, 70-62, in a much-heralded matchup. With the win, Hillhouse improved to 23-1. Notre Dame suffered its first loss (22-1) of the season.
Joey Kasperzyk scored 10 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter as Hillhouse pulled away for the victory. It was the record seventh SCC tournament title for the Academics, breaking the tie with city-rival Wilbur Cross. It was Hillhouse’s first title since 2013. Christian Adams (18 points) was named the tournament MVP. Notre Dame was playing in its first final since 2000.

Tournament Most Outstanding Player Samantha Chapps scored 14 points as second-seeded Mercy (20-3) outscored top-seeded Daniel Hand (19-4), 33-18, in the second-half to win 49-39 in the 2017 SCC Girls Basketball Championship Game on Feb. 22 at East Haven HS.
Prior to the game, the SCC First and Second Team All-Conference honorees will be recognized as will the Player of the Year (Kylie Schlottman, East Haven) and Coach of the Year (Tyrese Thomas, Wilbur Cross), sponsored by OrthoNOW.

Daniel Hand captured the 2017 SCC Gymnastics Championship title, held on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2:30 p.m. @Jonathan Law HS. It is the Tigers' ninth straight league title.
North Haven and Shelton each won titles at the 2017 SCC Cheerleading Competion, held on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Shelton High School.
