Six SCC Football Team Earn CIAC State Playoff Berths

It was a big 2010 Turkey Day on the gridiron for the Southern Connecticut Conference.  A league-best six teams (out of 19 football-playing schools - 32%) have qualified for the CIAC state playoffs, which begin Tuesday, November 30.    Also, for the first time since the league realigned into four divisions, all four divisional winners (Xavier, Hand, Lyman Hall and North Haven) qualified for the state playoffs.

In the newly-expanded CIAC playoffs, there will be two All-SCC quarterfinal matchups (#8 West Haven at #1 Xavier in Class LL and #7 North Haven at #2 Hand in Class L).   The North Haven-Hand matchup will be second time in four years (2007 - Class MM semifinals, a 35-7 Hand victory) that the Indians and Tigers will meet in the CIAC playoffs.  In addition, Lyman Hall (8-2) and Hillhouse (7-3) earned playoff berths in Class M.   The #6 Trojans will travel to #3 Brookfield, while #8 Hillhouse will play at #1 Berlin.  All quarterfinal games will start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30.   The semifinals will be Saturday, December 4 at pre-determined sites.
