#SCC25 Turn Back the Clock – May 30

May 30 has been a very busy day in the 25-year history of the Southern Connecticut Conference. 

Here are some highlights from this day in SCC history.

May 30, 1995 – At the Yale University Golf Course, Fairfield Prep wins the first-ever SCC golf title, shooting a 310 – 18 strokes ahead of runner-up Cheshire.   Leading the way for Prep were the quartet of Dave Knott (co-medalist, 76), Jim Fitzpatrick (77), Kevin McNamara (78) and Josh Bittner (79).

May 30, 1996 – Fairfield Prep wins the first-ever SCC boys lacrosse playoff title with a 16-8 victory over Cheshire at Strong Field in Madison. 

May 30, 1996 – Amity wins the first-ever SCC boys volleyball playoff title, defeating Hand, 3-1.   Amity and Hand had tied for the regular-season title (7-1).

May 30, 1997 – Hand captures the first SCC girls lacrosse playoff title, defeating Mercy, 7-6, at Strong Field in Madison. 

May 30, 2003 – In the longest game in SCC softball postseason history, Amity defeats Hand, 3-2, in 15 innings.  The Spartans would go on to win the Class LL title and finish a perfect 25-0 and earn the top ranking in the state.

May 30, 2009 – In an all-Milford final at Yale Field, Jonathan Law defeats Foran, 11-6, to win its first-ever SCC baseball title.

May 30, 2015 – Amity Regional pitcher Katie Koshes hurls three shutouts as the Lady Spartans win the SCC playoff title.  Koshes blanked Mercy (7-0), Cheshire (3-0) and Lauralton Hall (3-0) in a four-day span to earn Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.

May 30, 2017 – Mercy wins the first-ever SCC girls golf title at Racebrook Country Club.
