WE HAVE A WINNER! What is the SCC's Best Moment of 2017-18, presented by Town Fair Tire

Thank you for voting for the SCC's Best Moment/Performance in 2017-18, presented by Town Fair Tire, the best place to buy tires.  More than 1,750 votes were cast over a two-week period!

The winner is Xavier Boys Cross Country, which won the SCC, State Open, New England and Nike/Northeast Regional titles in the fall of 2017.  Congratulations to head coach Chris Stonier and the Falcons.


 

 Here are the other top performances/moments that were considered:

WELCOME TO THE CLUB: Daniel Hand wins its first-ever SCC boys volleyball title with a 3-1 victory over Cheshire.             

PREP LAX: Fairfield Prep wins its seventh SCC boys lacrosse title in the last eight seasons, defeating Cheshire, 12-10.

ONE STROKE: Amity Regional captures the SCC girls golf title by one stroke over runner-up Mercy.          

GOT RINGS?: Hillhouse boys (Class MM) and girls outdoor track (Class M) each capture state titles.        

TIGERS HOLDING COURT: For the third time since 2013, Daniel Hand boys and girls tennis teams each capture SCC titles.             

ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS: After its SCC quarterfinal game as postponed by rain, the Amity Regional-North Haven baseball teams engage in a fun game of “rock-paper-scissors,”  which garners substantial local and national media attention.               

STATE TITLE: East Haven girls basketball wins its first-ever state title, defeating SCC-rival Career, 49-47, on a last-second putback by Isabella Ragaini.      

MERCY, MERCY, MERCY: Mercy wins the SCC girls basketball title, and then proceeds to capture the Class LL state title (49-37 over Hall) and the final number-one ranking in the state of Connecticut.          

GREEN DRAGONS: Hamden captures its first-ever SCC Boys Basketball title, defeating Hllhouse, 67-49.   

WORKING TOGETHER: The co-op of West Haven/Sacred Heart wins the SCC Girls Ice Hockey South Division title.      

PREP #1: Fairfield Prep defeats Greenwich, 4-2, to capture the Division I state boys ice hockey championship and earn the state's final top ranking.              

SCC, SCC, SCC: Fairfield Prep (I), Guilford (II) and Sheehan (III) all win SCC/SWC postseason boys ice hockey titles.    

TIGER MAT DOMINANCE: Daniel Hand gymnastics wins its 10th consecutive SCC title.

POOL SUCCESS: Fairfield Prep wins its 14th straight SCC boys swimming title.               

GIVE ME A "G": Shelton cheerleading wins the SCC and Class LL titles.              

LUTH: Foran wrestler Ryan Luth (152 lbs.) ends his high school wrestling career with a fifth-place finish at the Nationals. He was a four-time SCC champion, a three-time All-American and a two-time New England champion.           

HOUSE FAMILY: Hillhouse captures both the boys and girls SCC indoor track titles, and then both teams capture Class M state titles.           

GRIDIRON TROPHIES: Daniel Hand captures the Class L state football title, defeating Masuk, 35-21.         

X-MEN: Xavier boys cross country wins the SCC, State Open and New England titles, and becomes the first New England squad to win the Nike/Northeast Regional championship.           

TIGER BOOTERS: Daniel Hand boys soccer wins the SCC title, and two weeks later, defeats Masuk, 2-1, to capture its second straight Class L state title.            

CRUSADERS: Lauralton Hall captures the Class M girls swimming state title, its third state championship in the last four years.            

TIGERS FIELD HOCKEY: Daniel Hand field hockey follows up its SCC title with a 2-1 win over New Canaan in the Class M state title game.          

RAMLAND: Cheshire girls swimming captures the SCC and Class L state titles.

CAREER EFFORT: Career’s Dyshon Vaughn captured the long jump national championship with a jump of 24.5.5 Saturday’s New Balance National Championships at The Armory in New York City.           

DREW IS FAST: Fairfield Prep senior Drew Thompson wins the SCC, Class LL, State Open and New England cross country titles and then places eighth at the Foot Locker National Championships.              

REPEAT RED: Branford defeats SCC-rival Daniel Hand, 11-8, in the Class M girls lacrosse final.  It is the second straight state title for the Hornets.

RAM-TASTIC: Cheshire baseball captures the Class L state title, defeating Ridgefield, 1-0,   It is the Rams’ first state title since 1993.              

GOING LOW: Xavier’s Chris Fosdick wins medalist honors with a four-under 67 at the inaugural CIAC Boys Golf State Open.

SPARTAN REJOICE: Amity Regional softball defeats Trumbull, 13-7, to capture the Class LL title.               

INDIANS WIN: North Haven softball wins its first-ever SCC title.
