2016 Football Media Guide and Recordbook

New Football Divisional Alignment: In 2016, there will be 20 schools that compete in football in the SCC, divided into three tiers.

Tier I:  Cheshire, Daniel Hand, Fairfield Prep, North Haven, Notre Dame, Shelton, West Haven, Xavier
Tier 2:  Amity Regional, Foran, Hamden, Hillhouse, Wilbur Cross
Tier 3: Branford, East Haven, Guilford, Creed/Career, Jonathan Law, Lyman Hall, Sheehan

2016 Important Dates:

Monday, August 15 - For schools that didn't have spring practice; 1st Day of Conditioning

Friday, August 19 - For schools that did conduct spring practice; 1st Day of Conditioning

Saturday, August 20 - For schools that didn't have spring practice; 1st Practice Day

Wednesday, August 25 - For schools that did conduct spring practice; 1st Practice Day

Thursday, September 9 - 1st Date of Competition

22nd All-Conference Football Banquet Held

2015 FB Division Champ

The 22nd annual SCC All-Conference Football Banquet was held on January 11 at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven.   Sixty-four student-athletes were honored, along with the four divisional champions (Shelton, Notre Dame, Hillhouse and North Haven).

Special thanks to the event sponsors - New Haven Gridiron Club, National Football Foundation - Gene Casey New Haven County Chapter and the Walter Camp Foundation.  

Hyde/Career/Whitney Tech co-op to join SCC in 2016

Hyde/Career/Whitney Tech co-op team will join the Southern Connecticut Conference in football starting with the 2016 season.   The co-op, which becomes the SCC's 20th football team, had previously played in the Pequot League.

Four SCC Teams Qualify for State Football Playoffs

Four SCC teams qualified for the 2015 state football playoffs.  It is the sixth straight year that at least four SCC teams have reached the postseason.  
 
Three teams (Shelton, North Haven and Notre Dame) earned spots in the semifinals - it is the fourth time since 2010 (when state went to quarterfinal round) that at least three SCC teams reached semifinals.
 
Two teams (Shelton-LL, North Haven-L) have reached the championship round.  North Haven is the 11th different SCC team to reach a state championship game.

Class L Quarterfinals - #1 North Haven 48, #8 Middletown 13
Class L Quarterfinals - #7 Notre Dame 34, at #2 Harding 0
 
Monday, Dec. 7
Class LL Semifinals - #1 Shelton 35, #4 Newtown 28
Class L Semifinals - #1 North Haven 21, #5 Wethersfield 14
Class L Semifinals - #6 New Canaan 51, #7 Notre Dame 27
 
Saturday, Dec. 12
Class LL Championship - Darien 39, Shelton 7... Gaels finish 12-1.
Class L Championship - New Canaan 42, North Haven 35... Indians finish 12-1.
