Annual Football All-Conference Banquet Held

Division FB Champs 2014

The SCC held its 21st Football All-Conference Banquet on January 5 at Anthony's Ocean View.

Sixty All-Conference players were feted, along with the 2014 divisional champions:  North Haven (Div. II East), Branford/Hillhouse/Jonathan Law (Div. II West), Shelton (Div. I West) and Cheshire/Notre Dame (Div. I East).

In addition, the SCC/OrthoNOW Players and Coaches of the Year were recognized:  Mark Piccirillo, quarterback (Shelton) - Div. I Player of the Year;  Jeff Roy (Shelton) - Div. I Coach of the Year; Jake Kasuba, quarterback (Foran) - Div. II Player of the Year; Derrick Lewis (Jonathan Law) - Div. II Coach of the Year

SCC Football in the State Playoffs

Four SCC teams qualified for the 2014 state football playoffs.  It is the fourth straight year at least four teams have earned postseason berths.  Congratulations to Xavier (Class LL Small Champions), Shelton (Class LL Small Runners-up) and Notre Dame (Class L Small Runners-up).
 
Xavier's state title is the SCC's 27th state titles in the 21 years of the league.
 
Semifinals - Saturday, Dec. 6
Class LL Small: Xavier 13, Newtown 7... Falcons (8-3) advance to 4th state title game in 5 years
Class LL Small:  at Shelton 42, Hall 14... Gaels (12-0) advance to first state final since 2007
Class L Small:  at Windsor 22, North Haven 6... Indians finish 9-3
Class L Small:  Notre Dame 13, at Middletown 10... Green Knights (9-3) will meet Windsor in state final
 
Championship Games - Dec. 13
Class LL Small: Xavier 28, Shelton 27 (OT)... Falcons (9-3) win 4th state title in 5 years... Gaels finish 12-1
Class L Small: Windsor 38, Notre Dame 16... Green Knights finish 9-4... first state title appearance since 2009.
 
The Xavier-Shelton Class LL Small Championship Game wad the third All-SCC matchup in a state football final (1996-LL, Cheshire vs. Hamden; 2005-M, Hand vs. Hillhouse); and the 22nd overall in all sports (since 1994-95).

After an extremely competitive and successful SCC/FCIAC Week #1 Football Challenge in 2013 (the FCIAC held a slim 9-8 advantage), here is the year two (2014) schedule for week #1 (Sept. 10-13).

SCC Hosts 20th All-Conference Football Banquet

The SCC hosted its 20th All-Conference football banquet on January 6 at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven.  The sixty All-Conference student-athletes were recognized, as were the four divisional champions (Fairfield Prep, West Haven, Guilford and North Haven).
